A long time in the making yes indeed but worth the wait. Compiled primarily by Aroop Roy and assisted by Amar Patel this compilation highlights the sound of Aroop's Absolute!! club sessions in Tokyo, an event that we were lucky enough to play at last year.
The album is almost entirely exclusively unreleased material from producers in Japan and/or linked to Aroop's session - names include Chris Prolific & Pharoah Monche, Simbad, Kay Suzuki, Colonel Red, Dego and Aroop himself.

I cant help feeling that more than ever that collaborations are the way forward in the underground music scene, highlighted for me currently by the great work that the Coopr8 guys are doing. There is no point everyone trying to do their own thing all the time within such a small niche, it dilutes the impact.
Lets pull everything together. If anyone out there is keen to collaborate to organise events, joint label compilations, setup live gig and/or DJ networks, or anything else, please get in to…

Not been able to blog for a while due to being locked out of my account. I am the poster formally known as Meat Meal but have decided to drop the mystery psyeudonyn and use my real name, Matt Neale.
Really pleased with the Ceramic release as its been getting a lot of support and is a great representation of what we are all about at Unique Uncut. Also got a remix package coming out on NYSoul Records that is also shaping up rather nicely. Expect an late April release for that - will keep everyone…

Some people astound me. This goes out to whoever runs the blogs, yes there is more than one, (I wont name you, I dont want your links to spread) that have decided its ok to post the entire Ceramic - Broken Dreams single as 320k mp3 files for people to download for free.
You have no idea.
You have no appreciation or respect for music or for artists.
People like you are destroying the music industry.

For any of you who share a similar unhealthy obsession with all things disco then you may be interested to hear about a Disco and Balearic music festival that is happening in Brighton in May. The festival is called "Go Bang" and will include a series of parties which are taking part at various venues. The festival is billed as
"Four Weekends of Underground Disco, Electro-Funk, Balearic, Re-Edits and Real House Music in the Bars and Basements of Brighton"
Looks like a winner and I know so…

Big welcome to all the new members of this group. Glad to have you on board.
Here is a list of what is doing it for me musically this month so far:
Theo Parrish "Sound Sculptures" - incredible album, missed out on the vinyl so was very pleased to see that it was coming out on CD. Low and behold it also had some extra tracks, and they are all killers!
Ceramic "Broken Dreams" - New Unique Uncut single and a real banger.
Atjazz "Parallels" - Tip off from Greymatter, lovely…

Just a quick post to highlight a few DJs that need your attention. The DJs on this list are some of my current favorites and even though two are presently dead they still inspire me with their musical selections and attitude to playing records.
Ron Hardy: Resident at the Music Box back in the 80s in Chi town. His style of playing records was arguably more influential to the current house sound than say Frankie Knuckles (who was credited as the godfather of house). A true legend and someo…

This was the first official time that the Beer & Rap guys have joined us at Basement Soul, and it was a killer session.
Myself and Matt Neale warmed up with a mixture of beats, I was particularly interested to hear the new Hudson Mohwake 12" on a system and it didnt disappoint.
At midnight Kev Luckhurst, Simon See, Daps and Tom Simpson took over with Enlish hosting. They kept it heated for the rest of night, we were full until closing time.
Track of the night for…

This Friday is another Basement Soul Friday at the Jazz Place. Needless to say, I am really looking forward to the party and its gonna be very interesting to see what happens in regards to the Beer & Rap Vs Basement Soul Battle. Personally, im more of a disco and soul head rather than a Hip-Hop man, so this party the other guys are stepping up and taking the lead (namely Simon See and Phat Kev). They have serious knowledge and awesome Hip-Hop collections, so I know they are gonna do the busi…

Introducting........Just some thoughts on an issue that has arisen on the Southport Weekender forum & Icoopr8 site this week. People were discussing how everyone seems to be file-sharing these days and consequently suggesting that it is killing our scene. How do we approach the issue of people not paying for music anymore (I mean via direct sales)?
Are we f**#ed already? I would argue that no, we aren't totally… Continue

My first blog post on this site and I guess it would be rude not to introduce myself before I begin ranting....
Known as Meat Meal (its a long story) I have been involved with Basement Soul for about a year now. I was originally drafted in to play as a DJ at the already established Basement Soul club night in Brighton and that was initially more as a guest than as a resident. I was also asked to help out with the label, something that I was really pleased with as I respect the guys' wor…

Basement Soul is backOn the 30th of November, we relaunched our Jazz Rooms Brighton session after a 6 month hiatus. It felt good to be back and the party turned out to be an absolute belter. It felt completely natural to be back in that space and since its little refit it was looking much better than how we remembered it. No more sticky floors or barrels out of the Pirates of the Caribbean set. The space is now perfect for what we want to do with Basement Soul: it doesn't have t…
